Issue #1
Our City Council Has Failed to Accomplish Its Goals
Councilmembers have made campaign promises to…
- Reduce rental property
- Eliminate drug treatment facilities and sober houses
- Fill vacant storefronts
- Spend money wisely
These promises were never kept.
- Since 2000, only 15 of over 3000 rental units have been eliminated, most not through actions of the City
- The City Council has done nothing to decrease the amount of sober homes and treatment facilities
- Vacant storefronts have increased throughout the City
- Permit and user fees, taxes, and utility rates have increased across the board
Issue #2
City Council Priorities Are Not Those of Working Anokans
Instead of spending time and money solving important issues, we
see the City’s resources spent on trivial items or pet projects that
benefit a handful of Anokans.
Multiple meetings and hours spent debating the number of chickens a family can have in Anoka
Debating the merits of spending $60 on sandwiches and pop for volunteers, while subsidizing failed downtown developments for millions of dollars
Spending $171,000 on dredging 40 feet of the river to benefit a handful of boat owners, while the same amount of money could have been spent controlling traffic on McKinley and Hwy 47 to allow residents the ability to access their neighborhoods
Groups that sponsor events which help bring business to Anoka are obstructed by the City Council (Anoka River Run Car Show and proposed Farmer’s Market
It’s time to hold our government accountable for the
promises they make and to the citizens they are elected
to serve.
